media censorship
I see the Michael Powell link in the last post has sparked a little discussion. Denise was kind enough to post a link to this article. I'm wondering if anyone in the class thinks that there should be more restriction on what the networks can do.
Michael Powell had a clear view on the role the FCC should play. His goal was to reduce regulation on ownership rules and increase restrictions on content laws. Generally the FCC chairman reflects the view of the president who he or she is appointed by. What is odd is that George W. Bush made some comments on a recent C-Span interview about how much the government should do to restrict media content. He seemed to indicate that parents shouldn't depend on the government as a censor.
Read the article and give me your thoughts. Also, if you have not commented on the last post make sure you do.

three media things
First off, Johnny Carson died this weekend. I recommend reading the New York Times obituary. It's pretty long. The best parts are about his political humor.
The second item I have, which is a lot less tragic...in fact it's not tragic at all, is the fact that Michael Powell officially resigned as FCC chairman. Now we wait and see who will replace him.
Finally, my favorite news item of last week is right here. I won't even say what it was. You'll just have to read it and laugh.
Post your brilliant comments below.
